Sinopse

As computers begin to resemble humans, can love still be unchanged? Hideki Motosuwa, a diligent young man from the countryside, is striving to enter college despite his financial struggles. With limited funds, he can't afford the latest trend: Persocoms, personal computers designed to look identical to humans. One night, on his way home, he stumbles upon a discarded Persocom. After bringing her home and successfully activating her, she appears to be malfunctioning, only able to utter the word "Chii," which becomes her name. However, unlike other Persocoms, Chii cannot download information, so Hideki decides to educate her about the world through personal experiences while preparing for his college entrance exams. Together with his friends, Hideki attempts to solve the enigma surrounding Chii, who might be a "Chobit," a rumored special unit capable of genuine human emotions, thoughts, and love for their owner. But can a romantic relationship develop between a human and a Persocom?

Background

Episodes 9 and 18 from the original series are "recap" episodes, which summarize prior events. For the DVD release, these episodes were re-numbered as 8.5 and 16.5, respectively, and removed from their original positions by being included together on the final DVD.
