Synopsis
Sena Kobayakawa, a timid and petite student at Deimon High School, often becomes a target for bullies due to his reserved nature. Years of running errands have honed his agility and ability to evade crowds. When Youichi Hiruma, the shrewd captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team, sees Sena's swift movements, he persuades the shy boy to join his team. To keep Sena's identity a secret from rival clubs, Hiruma has him don the helmet of "Eyeshield 21," a enigmatic running back wearing jersey number 21. Legend has it that Eyeshield 21 can run at light speed and accomplished extraordinary feats in the United States while at Notre Dame College. Used to evading his troubles, Sena's unique skill set could make him the Deimon Devil Bats' hidden asset. Through teamwork, Sena slowly builds self-assurance and forms meaningful connections with his teammates.
Background
Initially, Eyeshield 21 was set to air in North America on Toonami Jetstream and NFL Rush in partnership with the National Football League, but the arrangement failed, and the anime premiered solely on Toonami Jetstream, which eventually discontinued the series. Later, the entire series became accessible on Crunchyroll. Sentai Filmworks subsequently acquired the rights and released the first 52 episodes on DVD between 2010 and 2011.
