Synopsis
A short film produced by Yasuji Murata, based on the Japanese fairy tale Hanasaka Jiijii. A kind old man and his wife discover gold coins where their dog is barking.
Background
The 28th film in the Athena Film Library educational series produced by Yokohama Cinema Shokai. Both 35mm and 16mm versions were released. The existing print is a 16mm Sakura Graph version released by Konishiroku Honten. The 35mm original version is a single 375 meter reel lasting 14 minutes. This film is a considerably shortened version, missing several elements such as intertitles, a scene with a pet dog chasing a black cat, and a story about how the Blossom Man earns his reputation.
