Synopsis

The first part of a two-part movie, this story recaps the TV series. Mirai Kuriyama, the sole survivor of a Spirit World warrior clan, is tasked with hunting youmu—creatures born from negative human emotions. One day, she encounters Akihito Kanbara, a half-breed youmu in human form, on the school roof. In a panic, she stabs him with her blood saber, only to discover his immortality. From then on, an unlikely friendship forms between Mirai and Akihito, revolving around Mirai's attempts to boost her confidence by constantly trying to kill him. Akihito convinces her to join the Literary Club, which houses two other powerful Spirit World warriors, Hiroomi and Mitsuki Nase. As their bond strengthens, so does the tenacity of the youmu around them. Their misadventures soon turn into a fight for survival as the release of the most powerful youmu, Beyond the Boundary, approaches.
