Synopsis
This 60-second film showcases six fierce samurai racing through a futuristic city using unconventional transportation, including a kite, to reach their favorite pub in time for the last order.
Background
This commercial was created by the renowned Ireland-based Murphy's Brewery to promote their Irish Stout. Established in 1865 in Cork, Murphy's Brewery is known as a major competitor of Guinness. The British advertising agency Nexus Productions specifically requested a Ghost in the Shell style from I.G, as Oshii's groundbreaking movie had recently been released in the UK, causing a sensation around Japanese animation. I.G assembled a dream team that would be unthinkable today: Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Blood: The Last Vampire) as director, Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell, Innocence) as character designer and animation supervisor, and Hiromasa Ogura (Jin-Roh) in charge of the background art. As the first anime-style commercial film ever aired in the UK, Last Orders garnered significant attention and was presented by the local press as "the new Murphy's commercial made by the creators of Ghost in the Shell."
