Sinopsis
Shizuma Origasa, a former renowned samurai from the Aizu Domain, now struggles to make ends meet as a rickshaw puller in Tokyo after his homeland's defeat by the new imperial government. He is determined to find his missing fiancée, Sumie Kanomata, the younger sister of his late friend Gennosuke, who entrusted her safety to Shizuma. After thwarting an assassination attempt, Shizuma is hired by the police, using this opportunity to continue his search for Sumie. However, he soon becomes entangled in a web of political conspiracies involving government loyalists, persistent rebels, cunning courtesans, meddlesome foreigners, and a mysterious yakuza member, Kyoushirou Shuragami.
