Synopsis

Sena Kobayakawa, a timid and petite student at Deimon High School, is often bullied because of his quiet nature. Yet, years of running errands have honed his agility and knack for dodging through crowds. When Youichi Hiruma, the shrewd captain of the Deimon Devil Bats football team, sees Sena’s swift movements, he forces the reluctant boy to join his team. To keep Sena’s identity hidden from rival clubs, Hiruma makes him wear the visored helmet of "Eyeshield 21," a legendary running back in the number 21 jersey. Rumored to move at the speed of light, Eyeshield 21 is said to have accomplished extraordinary feats while playing for Notre Dame College in the United States. Used to evading his troubles, Sena’s unique skills may turn him into the Deimon Devil Bats’ secret weapon. Through his interactions with teammates, he slowly builds confidence and forms meaningful friendships.

Eyeshield 21 was initially planned to stream in North America on Toonami Jetstream and NFL Rush in partnership with the National Football League, but the deal collapsed, and the anime first aired solely on Toonami Jetstream, which later discontinued it. The series was eventually made available in full on Crunchyroll. Sentai Filmworks later acquired the rights and released the first 52 episodes on DVD between 2010 and 2011.
