Synopsis
Nello Daas, a talented artist living in a village near Antwerp, Belgium, supports himself and his ailing grandfather by selling milk in the city's market. His best friend, Alois Cogez, is the daughter of his harsh landlord, who believes Nello is a negative influence on her. Enraged by Alois' closeness to a peasant, her father sends her to a school in Antwerp to prevent further contact. While continuing his daily market trips, Nello discovers an art contest centered around the renowned Peter Paul Rubens, an artist he greatly admires. The contest offers a monetary prize and the chance to study art in the same city as Alois. With a new goal in mind, Nello begins brainstorming the perfect piece, but a series of challenges threaten to derail his dreams. Through it all, his loyal dog, Patrasche, whom he rescued from near-death, supports him. Flanders no Inu is a reimagined film capturing the classic story of an innocent boy and his faithful canine companion as they journey together until the end.
