Inamura no Hi (1989)

This film recounts the true events of the 1854 Nankai earthquake and the subsequent tsunami. Five samurai from a village attempted to warn others to evacuate after spotting the approaching tsunami, but their warnings were largely ignored. They then set fire to threshed rice, leading villagers to believe their crops were ablaze. The villagers rushed to extinguish the fire, saving themselves from the devastating tsunami that destroyed the villages below.
