Synopsis

A staggering $$60,000,000,000 bounty hangs over the head of Vash the Stampede. Rumors paint him as a ruthless criminal, dubbed "The Humanoid Typhoon," known for obliterating opponents and leveling cities on a whim, leaving devastation in his wake. Merely meeting his gaze is said to be a death sentence. Contrary to these tales, Vash insists he has never killed anyone and steers clear of violence, revealing a gentle nature beneath the infamous reputation. Accompanied by his eccentric love for doughnuts and a clownish demeanor, Vash roams the barren landscape of the planet Gunsmoke. His journey is shadowed by Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, insurance agents striving to mitigate the chaos he attracts. Their escapades take a perilous turn as a cadre of renowned assassins descends upon them, intent on inflicting torment. Vash's harrowing past surfaces, testing the very limits of his ethics and convictions.

Arrière-plan

Victor Entertainment's Japanese release features different openings depending on the episode. Geneon Entertainment USA's initial VHS and DVD releases, under the name Pioneer, used only the first opening for each episode. This happened because the Japanese licensor provided them with clean materials solely for the first opening to add English credits. Geneon corrected this error in their 2005/2006 Limited Edition tin releases and the Remix singles. After Geneon USA closed in late 2007, the show became unavailable. When FUNimation Entertainment acquired the show in 2010, they repeated Geneon's mistake of using only the first opening for every episode. This was finally fixed in the 2013 Anime Classics re-release.
