Sinossi

After enduring a harrowing whirlpool at sea and barely surviving in a barrel, the easygoing Monkey D. Luffy finds himself on a ship besieged by dreaded pirates. Despite his youthful and naive appearance, Luffy is a force to be reckoned with. Unrivaled in combat, he is a pirate determined to claim the legendary One Piece treasure and the title of King of the Pirates that accompanies it. Before his death, the former King of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger, revealed the location of his vast treasure, inviting everyone to seek it. Since then, countless formidable pirates have ventured into treacherous seas in pursuit of the coveted One Piece, never to return. Although Luffy lacks a crew and a proper ship, his superhuman abilities and indomitable spirit make him a formidable foe and an inspiration to many. Facing numerous challenges with a smile, Luffy gathers unique companions to join him on his ambitious quest, together embracing the perils and wonders of their once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

The anime was on hiatus from October 13, 2024, to April 6, 2025. Starting April 5, 2026, the anime adopted a seasonal release model. Initially, it aired on Wednesdays at 19:00 from October 20, 1999, to March 2001. The time slot changed to Sundays at 19:30 between April 2001 and December 2004. From October 6, 2006, to October 13, 2024, it aired on Sundays at 9:30. On April 6, 2025, the airing time was moved to Sundays at 23:15. Several anime-original arcs have been adapted into light novels, and the series has inspired over 50 video games as of 2023. In June 2004, One Piece was licensed in North America by 4Kids Entertainment, which collaborated with Viz Media for home video distribution. However, as One Piece did not suit their target audience, 4Kids Entertainment censored the show to meet their criteria and ceased its production in December 2006. In April 2007, Funimation acquired the series licensing, releasing an uncut version faithful to the original. In Japan, the anime's first 574 episodes were released on DVD by Avex Pictures from February 21, 2001, to December 4, 2013. Blu-ray releases began alongside DVDs on January 8, 2014. In North America, Viz Media released the anime on DVD from February 28, 2006, to June 26, 2007. Funimation has re-released and continued the series since May 27, 2008, with DVDs accompanied by Blu-rays from March 23, 2021.
