Sekai Meisaku Douwa: Aladdin to Mahou no Lamp

This film stays very faithful to the original story, except for a kangaroo-rat that appears twenty minutes in and follows Aladdin around, serving no purpose but as a token animal mascot. The screenwriter, Akira Miyazaki, wrote five of the classic WMT series, including Perrine and Rascal, and participated in two others. The story takes some illogical and confusing jumps when Aladdin begins to court the princess, and the extravagant animation that characterized Toei films of the 60s has faded. However, this is still an above-average film, largely due to the screenplay's faithfulness to the original. The character designs are slightly more western-looking than usual in anime.
