Synopsis
High school student Ritsu Shikishima enjoys pondering psychological questions, such as "What is happiness?" His peaceful world begins to crumble when he hears a strange, static-filled voice pleading for help. This voice belongs to μ, a beloved pop idol whose singing begins to distort the faces of Ritsu's friends and family, transforming them into Digiheads—berserk monsters aiming to exterminate those who awaken to the truth of their existence. Realizing he is trapped in a virtual world called Mobius, Ritsu must gather others who have realized the truth before they are all eliminated. Together, they will use their newfound powers and weapons, granted by their emotions—the Catharsis Effect—to fight off the mysterious group known as The Ostinato Musicians as they struggle to escape.
