Sinopsis

To unite their countries, the Empress of Austria arranges for her daughter, Marie Antoinette, to marry the crown prince of France, Louis XVI. Upon arriving in Versailles, Antoinette meets Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, Captain of the Royal Guards—a seemingly dashing young man who is, to Antoinette's surprise, a woman. The youngest daughter of a noble family lacking a male heir, Oscar was raised as a boy to continue the family's military legacy. Antoinette, suffocated by the rigid rules of her new position, immediately befriends Oscar. However, as Antoinette abuses her power, Oscar struggles between loyalty to the royal family and addressing the growing poverty among the common people. Recalling the events of the French Revolution, Versailles no Bara depicts the struggles of two women burdened by family expectations, who march on to become key players in history.
