Synopsis
Eleven-year-old Julie Braun lives in the picturesque mountain pastures of Austria's Southern Tyrol. After her parents are killed by Italian soldiers, she moves to Vienna to live with her relatives, the Clementes. She befriends cousins Johan and Tanya but struggles to adjust to life with Uncle Karl and Aunt Klara. As Austria is drawn into World War I, Karl loses his job at a glass factory, forcing Julie's new family into a life of hardship.
