Wena Wrist

Sony unveiled the 'kawamori Edition' of its new 'wena wrist' smartwatch, designed in collaboration with Macross anime director and mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori. The watch is accompanied by an anime advertisement. The aircraft in the video resembles the YF-19/VF-19 variable fighter designs from Macross Plus and Macross 7, but also draws inspiration from real-life fighter craft, featuring canards common in European fighters and an air intake similar to the F-16. The iconic motif of hands forming a fighter first appeared in Macross Plus. Kawamori designed the case for the Wena Wrist product. The watch itself is a mechanical design, evoking pilot watch-style elements. The dial's design resembles the attitude indicator seen on fighter instrument panels, with an open-heart design showing the mechanical movement. The 12:00 position is marked by a white arrow, a common feature in many pilot watches.
