Sinopsis

After witnessing his ex-girlfriend Myon narrowly escape a subway accident, Nishi reconnects with her. He is devastated to learn she is engaged to another man. At her family's yakitori restaurant, Nishi tries to intervene when Yakuza members attack, but they kill him. Nishi awakens in the afterlife, where a shapeshifting god mocks him. The god orders him to vanish into a portal, but Nishi refuses and reanimates. With newfound determination and knowledge of the Yakuza's plans, Nishi kills one of them and escapes with Myon and her sister in a stolen car.

Fondo

The film received the Animation Division Grand Prize at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival. It also earned the Oufuji Noburou Award at the 2005 Mainichi Film Awards. In 2005, it won multiple accolades at the Fantasia Festival in Canada, including Best Film, Best Director (shared with Survive Style 5+), Best Script (shared with Survive Style 5+), Special Award for Visual Accomplishment, and the Audience Award for Best Animation Film.
