Sinopsis

Makoto "Smile" Tsukimoto and Yutaka "Peco" Hoshino, despite their contrasting personalities, have been close friends since childhood. Peco, brimming with confidence, dreams of becoming the world's greatest ping-pong player but often skips practice, frustrating his teammates at Katase High School. Meanwhile, Smile, though naturally gifted, hesitates to unleash his full potential during matches. Their shared love for ping-pong has forged an unbreakable bond between them. When Peco learns of an ex-national team player from China visiting Japan, he drags Smile to Tsujido High School to observe. The encounter leads to a humiliating defeat for Peco at the hands of Kong Wenge. Stunned by the loss, Peco questions his motivation for playing. Recognizing Smile's potential, their coach begins training him to overcome his hesitation, but Smile is reluctant to play unless it's for enjoyment. As they grapple with the meaning of the sport, they face formidable opponents at the inter-high tournament, each with their own internal struggles. The pursuit of glory reveals the harsh realities these young athletes must endure.

Ping Pong The Animation received the Animation of the Year award in the Television category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2015. The series was released on Blu-ray and DVD by Funimation Entertainment on June 23, 2015.
