Synopsis

Takashi Natsume, a timid expert on youkai and owner of the Book of Friends, continues his journey towards self-discovery with the help of both new and old friends. His most crucial ally remains his gluttonous and sake-loving bodyguard, the arrogant yet fiercely protective wolf spirit Madara—or Nyanko-sensei, as Madara is known when disguised as a plump, unassuming cat. Natsume, briefly separated from Nyanko-sensei, is ambushed and kidnapped by a strange group of masked, monkey-like youkai, who have taken him to their forest in search of the Book of Friends. Realizing his "servant" has been taken, Nyanko-sensei enlists the help of Natsume's youkai friends to mount a rescue operation. However, the forest of the monkey spirits is filled with dangerous enemies, including the Matoba Clan, Natsume's old adversary. Spanning from the formidable hideout of the Matoba to Natsume's own childhood home, Natsume Yuujinchou Shi is a sweeping yet familiar return to a world of danger and friendship, where Natsume will finally confront the demons of his past.
