Synopsis

Alfred Izuruha, a 10-year-old boy living in the neutral colony cluster of Side 6, is obsessed with the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon. Unbeknownst to him, his next-door neighbor, Christina, is the test pilot of a prototype Gundam secretly developed by the Earth Federation in the colony. A Zeon Special Forces team is assembled to infiltrate the colony and either steal or destroy the Gundam. During a skirmish between the Federation and infiltrating Zeon forces, Alfred discovers a downed Zaku mobile suit piloted by Zeon rookie Bernard "Bernie" Wiseman. After this encounter, the two form a mutual friendship, with Alfred eager to learn more about the war and Bernie seeking inside information about the colony to aid his team's mission.

Background

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket was created to celebrate the franchise's 10th anniversary. It marked the first time someone other than Yoshiyuki Tomino directed a Gundam project, with Fumihiko Takayama serving as the lead director.
