Synopsis

In the Elric household, a disastrous alchemy experiment leaves brothers Edward and Alphonse in a dire situation. They attempted to resurrect their late mother, defying the alchemical rule against human transmutation. As a result, Alphonse's body disintegrated, while Edward lost a leg and sacrificed an arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a massive suit of armor. Rescued by their neighbor Pinako Rockbell and her granddaughter Winry, Edward receives prosthetic limbs made from "automail," a durable metal used in robotics and combat armor. After years of training, the brothers embark on a quest to restore their bodies by finding the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful gem that allows alchemists to defy the laws of Equivalent Exchange. As Edward gains notoriety as an alchemist and earns the nickname "Fullmetal," the brothers' journey entangles them in a growing conspiracy that threatens the world's fate.
